En juillet dernier, U4U avait adressé une lettre ouverte aux eurodéputés appelant à leur soutien pour défendre le droit de grève et le dialogue social bafoué par l’Administration du Parlement européen. Sept d’entre eux ont répondu à l’appel.
Alors qu’un compromis a été trouvé in fine avec les interprètes suite à leurs actions, avec le soutien de notre organisation et de ces sept députés, le Président Antonio Tajani ne trouve rien de mieux que de leur infliger des sanctions financières et une interdiction d’exercer leurs droits parlementaires pendant 5 jours.
Pourtant, la grève des interprètes était la conséquence de la manière désastreuse dont M. Klaus Welle avait imposé ses nouvelles conditions de travail aux interprètes. Et au lieu de sanctionner le Secrétaire général qui avait piétiné le dialogue social, procédé à des réquisitions massives, violant le droit de grève et conduit le Parlement européen dans l’impasse, entravant son bon fonctionnement et sa crédibilité, il sanctionne les eurodéputés qui font leur devoir.
U4U pense que le Parlement européen a un devoir d’exemple et salue l’exemplarité des sept eurodéputés sanctionnés.

In July, U4U sent an open letter to the Members of the European Parliament, calling for their support in defending the right to strike and social dialogue, which the administration of the European Parliament flouted. Seven Members of the European Parliament answered the call.
While a compromise has ultimately been found with the interpreters – following their actions, with the support of our organisation and these seven Members of European Parliament – President Antonio Tajani sees fit to impose financial penalties on these Members and effectively ban them from exercising their rights as Members of the European Parliament for 5 days.
The Interpreters’ strike was the result of the disastrous way in which Mr Klaus Welle imposed his new working conditions on the interpreters. Rather than sanctioning the Secretary-General who had trampled on the social dialogue and proceeded to violate the right to strike, bringing the European Parliament to a standstill and therefore hindering its proper functioning and credibility, Mr Tajani has decided to sanction the seven Members of the European Parliament who supported the strike.
U4U argues that the European Parliament as a duty to lead by an example, and commends the exemplary behaviour of the seven sanctioned Members of the European Parliament.
