Constructionworkers.eu : A new tool against social dumping

On 7 June 2017, Maria Arena and Agnes Jongerius, social-democrat members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, welcomed the   European Federation of Building and Wood Workers (EFBWW) to the European Parliament to present a new website. Constructionworkers.eu is a site designed for posted workers from all over Europe.

It was launched on 11 April and translated into the 24 EU languages. Its objective is to inform posted workers of the employment and wage conditions applicable in their host country, so that each worker is able to verify whether his or her rights are being respected. This in turn enables posted workers to inform trade union organizations when this is not the case.

The site will thus facilitate inspection work and the sanctioning of abuse and fraud.

Maria Arena: « This new site is an important tool and a significant step forward in the fight against social dumping. That being said, in order to root out the abusive behaviour of certain undertakings a number of fundamental amendments to the legislation on the posting of workers and social security coordination are necessary. »

Agnes Jongerius: « As the rapporteur on the Posting of Workers Directive, I will do my utmost to ensure equal work for equal pay for all workers. Accurate information for employers on wages and collective agreements is a vital part of this, so I warmly welcome this initiative »
